Welcome to the Planning & Zoning Office
Growth and Development of Thornapple Township
Planning
The Planning Department, in cooperation with the Townshipβs Planning Commission, Zoning Board of Appeals and Board of Trustees, is responsible for the Master Plan which is a long-range guide intended to guide the growth and development of the Township.
The department is also responsible for creating and enforcing the Township Zoning Ordinance. This department processes applications related to zoning permits, planned unit developments, special land uses, site plan reviews, etc.
Planning Commission
The Planning Commission meets the 4th Monday of every month at 7:00 p.m. at Thornapple Township Hall, 200 E. Main Street, Middleville.
Permits
The Township requires that property owners obtain a zoning permit for all structures and additions, including fences, accessory structures (i.e. sheds, carports, pergola, etc.), and other miscellaneous items. Before you decide to begin construction, you will want to check on the required permits and zoning requirements specific to your project and property.
Zoning Board of Appeals
The ZBA meets as needed to act on applications for dimensional variances, appeals, interpretations, or other matters as authorized or required by the Zoning Ordinance or the Michigan Zoning Enabling Act.
